Current Projects

The Dyffryn Renewable Enterprise

Our first installation is to be in the Dyffryn Crawnon Valley in Powys. This steep sided glacial valley has a high level of rainfall combined with a large drop, two factors ideal for hydro generation.

Planning permission has been submitted and the necessary funds are in place for a 16Kw generator in the valley.

The green electricity generated will be sold to a utility company via the National Grid. The revenue (an estimated £11,000 per annum) will be shared between The Green Valleys and the community of the Dyffryn Valley.

The Green Valleys' share will then be recycled into the investment fund, allowing us to move forward and invest in another scheme elsewhere in the area. The community will decide what to do with their share but ideas include investing in a community woodland to be managed for wood fuel and biodiversity conservation of electric bike hire for local sustainable transport.

The Carbon Audit

The year-long carbon audit that we carried out for NESTA's Big Green Challenge has come to an end.  Thank you to all who took part in this valuable contribution towards the Big Green Challenge.

The audit has captured the imagination of quite a few people and so we hope to continue with the audit, on a quarterly basis to provide an ongoing picture of the energy demands of the average household in the park area.

Community Woodlands

TGV has helped set up two local woodland groups in Cwm Du and Llangattock.  Two training events have been held to give people the skills and understanding to plan and undertake management safely.  Both events were well attended and two more events are planned for the year, with more training and support ongoing into the new year. read more.
